Social Responsibility

We are an online company that sells throughout Europe and where research, development, and quality are part of our philosophy. That is why we have all the raw material certificates we use in the manufacture of our products on our website.

These values also include our commitment to society, which is why we carry out a series of sustainability and social responsibility actions.

We currently divide our social responsibility blocks into two:

1. Social Actions

We collaborate with different organisations and foundations whose aim is to support people with basic or specific unmet needs.

In this way, HSN shows its support to the Red Cross, Food Bank, Fundación Raíles, Fundación UAPO and Fundación Aladina, among others, collaborating in different actions and activities that aim to improve the quality of life.

.

2. Environmental Commitment

As manufacturers and logistics managers we are committed to the environment, striving for constant improvement in manufacturing processes, with the aim of reducing the environmental impact that we can generate.

Our Commitment (Corporate Social Responsibility)

Environment

We believe in sustainability and ensure that our production processes have as little impact on the environment as possible, reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible.

To meet this commitment, we have the Verpackungsrecycling: Duales System Interserch certification:

  • External control audits.
  • Registration with the central packaging registration agency.

Through this certification, HSN contributes to:

  • Recycling and Reuse of our packaging and transport material.
  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Waste management control.

However, our commitment to the environment never stops, so we are continuously working to obtain new certifications that support the commitment, honesty, and transparency that guide all our processes.

To this end, we have already carried out actions in this direction and more are planned:

Biodegradable Materials

We have replaced the packaging of some of our products, opting for packaging made from 50% recycled plastic.

As part of our commitment to sustainability and the environment, we continue to work on the reduction of plastic in the packaging of our products, always taking into account the need for the conservation of all our food products.

100% biodegradable dosing scoops

At HSN, we are taking another step towards our goal of reducing our environmental impact.

After leaving it up to our customers in 2022 to choose whether or not to include scoop dispensers in their HSN powder product purchases, in 2023 we began phasing in 100% biodegradable scoops in our products.

Currently, all 70ml dispensers that come with HSN powder products are 100% biodegradable. We are still in the process of expanding to all other sizes.

These scoops are made from 100% compostable, environmentally friendly PLA materials with no coatings or oxides in their composition.

HSN customers already have 100% biodegradable scoops in HSN powder products.

At HSN, we are committed to the environment and understand our responsibility as a manufacturing brand. We are committed to reducing the use of unnecessary plastics.

According to the Spanish government's Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco), in 2022 plastic will generate 1,492,739 tonnes of waste, of which 868,015 tonnes will be recycled. Of this amount, 40% will be plastic for single-use packaging.

It is up to all of us to reduce our environmental impact. At HSN we are committed to this and the new 100% biodegradable scoops for our powder products are one way we are helping to reduce the unnecessary use of plastic.

Tight package sizes

  • We work on adjusting all sizes of packaging, with the aim of reducing unnecessary material.

Packaging adjusted to consumption and product can reduce transport costs and carbon emissions.

In addition, fewer raw materials are consumed in its manufacture, reusing and recycling of all components of the system.

Recycling

As manufacturers, recycling is part of our commitment to the environment.

All the containers used in our plant are subsequently recycled, in addition to working in this way in our offices and logistics center.

At HSN, by controlling the entire product development and production chain, we ensure the recycling of all packaging left over from the process.

Only one chain

By developing, manufacturing, and managing the complete logistics of each of our products, avoiding intermediaries, and bringing HSN directly to the customer's home, we save on environmentally unfriendly intermediary transport.

With a large reduction in CO2 emissions

What can such a reduction amount to?

We can equate it to driving 730 times around the world.

We control the process, we avoid intermediaries, and thus unnecessary transport.

HSN products once developed and manufactured in our own facilities, have only one way, one single address: our customer.

Pick up your order and help the planet

At HSN we are committed to a more sustainable world, and now you can join our commitment to the environment in an easy and convenient way with the collection points.

  • You earn 50 HSN points with every purchase.
  • You reduce your carbon footprint, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions.
  • You contribute to logistical efficiency, avoiding multiple trips.

It's simple: when you complete your HSN order, choose a nearby collection point and enjoy a more sustainable delivery.

Join the change. Every little decision counts - make yours have a positive impact!

FSC seal on our shipments

As part of the development of our role as a socially responsible company and for the protection of the environment, our shipments began to include the FSC seal as of April 2023.

The FSC certificate ensures the correct management of forest resources and guarantees the conservation of forests and the environmental values that surround them. It also promotes sustainable forest management worldwide.

HSN is working every day to expand its commitment to the environment.

HSN Sustainability

As part of our commitment to the environment, HSN's objective is to work towards sustainability, by investing in the installation of renewable energy in all our facilities.

Taking advantage of its geographical location, we make the most of the sun's energy by installing solar panels on the roofs of all our facilities: factory, offices, and logistics centres.

In this way, photovoltaic solar energy covers the day-to-day energy needs of the majority of HSN's production. In addition, the company can offer the energy produced by its photovoltaic panels that it does not use to the electricity grid.

BioSeries Line

The BioSeries line, on which our R&D&I team is working to develop new products in the medium term, offers a 100% natural range, with ingredients sourced from organic farming.

In addition, we are working on new packaging where we will where we will minimise the use of plastic, prioritising the the use of recycled and biodegradable materials.

Why is most of our packaging made of plastic?

As a manufacturer of food, as well as capsule and powdered supplements, our first commitment to our customers is that all products arrive in the best possible conditions, so packaging is a fundamental element, having a key role in the recommended consumption and expiry date.

In most cases, plastic fulfills the requirement to optimise our packaging to make it as safe as possible and to help extend the shelf life the shelf life of our food. It should also be borne in mind that our products go directly to the end consumer, so they can be recycled.

Plastic is only considered a hazardous material when it enters the environment directly. Despite all of the above, at HSN we are working to use packaging made from recycled and biodegradable materials in the medium term, depending on the product line that allows it for safety reasons. In this sense, we have adjusted all the sizes of our packaging to reduce unnecessary material.

Solidarity Work

Red Cross & HSN

Red Cross focuses its efforts on protecting children and their families in social difficulties, thus ensuring the fulfillment of their fundamental rights and attending to those specific needs that emerge and which, to a certain extent, are not fully covered by the public administrations.

At HSN we are collaborating in different activities with them, such as their annual Solidarity Race.

This alliance is a call to action to all HSN customers to provide the most supportive and committed 'supplement', aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and favorable to children.

HSN's social work with the Red Cross was created to respond to thousands of children who make up the Red Cross School Success program, guaranteeing them a healthy diet.

Among the main actions of the Red Cross for children are educational support, provision of breakfasts and snacks, leisure and free-time activities, and prevention and awareness workshops.

The main actions in which the Red Cross works and in which HSN collaborates are...

Food Bank & HSN

Since 2019 we have been collaborating with the campaign La Gran Recogida de Alimentos (The Great Food Collection), which is carried out annually by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL).

As part of our social commitment, we donate the food that makes up our online catalogue, showing our support for the Food Bank, which seeks the welfare of the most disadvantaged people and/or those at risk of social exclusion.

Raíles

Raíles Foundation & HSN

We also aim to bring sport and healthy living to everyone, which is why we collaborate with the Raíles Foundation, which seeks to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in different areas of society.

Since 2019 HSN has been dressing all the players of the Raíles Foundation's basketball team (formerly known as ADEMO), as well as providing them with sports equipment for their training sessions and matches.

Sport is a fundamental tool to give people with intellectual disabilities a better future, trying to improve social relations and integration among them.

From HSN we support the work carried out in the search for improvement of the quality of life, as well as the inclusion of people as full citizens in a fair and supportive society.

UAPO Foundation & HSN

In 2023 we have initiated support and collaboration with the UAPO Foundation (Oncology Patient Support Unit in Spanish), which works to provide oncology patients with a comprehensive intervention.

UAPO currently has three centres in Spain: Granada, Madrid and Malaga. In these centres, UAPO carries out its project to help cancer patients through physical exercise, and to be able to treat them with physiotherapists and physical trainers to improve their quality of life and their recovery.

All these actions are endorsed by the PROFITH-CTS977 group of the University of Granada, which guarantees that interventions on patients are based on scientific evidence.

HSN collaborates with UAPO in its various projects, including collaboration with cancer research, as well as its presence in the various UAPO centres.

Treating Sickle Cell Disease in Senegal

The Projecte Tabassaye NGO applied to HSN in late 2022 for help with the goal of treating Sickle Cell Disease patients with L-Glutamine Powder by RawSeries, based on the 2017 FDA approval of the amino acid for oral administration.

HSN has collaborated by donating the necessary amount of L-Glutamine Powder from its RawSeries line for patient treatments at the Fass Diahe healing house in Kolda (Senegal).

Sickle cell disease is a chronic hereditary disease that causes a malformation of the red blood cells and is very common in Senegal. In the case of these patients, it is a disease that cannot be cured, but we try to alleviate the serious consequences it causes by providing them with a suitable environment and teaching them to learn about their disease and to take care of themselves.

Aladina Foundation & HSN

In 2024 we began collaborating with the Aladina Foundation, which works to ensure that no sick child or family ever loses their smile or their will to fight.

Currently, the Aladina Foundation helps around 1,500 sick children from all over Spain every year, through 20 participating hospitals.

The aim is to give these children all the love they need from the moment they arrive at the hospital, helping them every day so that they know they are not alone and feel unconditional support.
