Evowhey Protein - A protein for everyone

Evowhey Protein from SportSeries is our flagship protein, since it’s the HSN version with flavor, sweetener, of Whey Protein (Whey Concentrate), which is the go-to choice among users starting to use protein powder as part of their diet, and one of the most popular all-round protein options for athletes and health-conscious people, no matter their experience level with protein use.

Whey protein concentrate is obtained through a combined microfiltration and ultrafiltration process of milk whey, which is separated from casein during cheese production by the dairy industry. It’s considered an easy-to-digest protein with fast absorption.

Evowhey Protein is a quality protein made from milk of grass-fed cows.

Discover HSN’s 'TOP Seller' protein - why is it so good?

It’s Whey Protein Concentrate - a super versatile protein

One of the many reasons Evowhey is such a hit is its practicality when using it.

Evowhey mixes easily, can be taken anywhere and anytime, from morning to night, and around workouts; it works as part of a meal or as a shake between meals, no extra food needed.

Plus, its good digestibility makes Evowhey the perfect protein to take to university, work, or study sessions—you can have a shake and keep going without digestive heaviness. And thanks to its fast digestion, protein release into the bloodstream is quick too (Hoffman et al., 2004).

Whey protein concentrate is the favorite protein (along with whey protein isolate or 'iso') for all powder protein users looking for a reliable protein for any time of day.

If you want an unflavored option, to add your own flavors or prepare shakes with the natural WPC taste, check out Whey Protein Concentrate 100%, the unflavored version of Evowhey Protein.

Important! No amino acids added - protein content is real

For decades, amino acids have been added to proteins, a practice known as 'amino-spiking', promoted by American companies with heavy marketing focus, but it’s a practice we don’t recommend, except in specific cases.

Protein powders have protein content based on nitrogen content in the product. If amino acids, which are nitrogen compounds, are added, the protein value increases, but it’s not a 'real' content—it’s an artificial way to boost protein content.

A WPC contains between 40 and 80% protein, depending on how it’s filtered and its intended use. The most common for instant use in nutrition, as protein powder, is 80% protein.

If you find a whey protein concentrate powder with 90% protein and they say it’s not isolate (iso), that protein value isn’t real and is due to added nitrogen compounds.

Adding amino acids to a protein isn’t always bad. For example, in our Evopro Vegan, a premium plant protein blend, we add extra Leucine and Methionine—not to boost protein value artificially, but because plant proteins benefit greatly from extra amounts of these amino acids.

A whey protein like Evowhey doesn’t need added amino acids, it’s complete on its own, and that’s how we bring it to you—a quality protein, just as it should be.

    About 80% protein - high-protein raw material

Evowhey Protein’s protein content is 80% of its composition.

Its proteins have been structurally preserved because for our protein development, we only use top-tier European commercial raw materials, ensuring a filtration and spray-drying process that respects the natural protein structures of whey.

The raw protein without flavor contains no additives beyond lecithin, which allows instant mixing (explained later).

If you’re wondering... “So why does my protein have 77g and not 80g?”

The WPC we use is 80% protein, the highest reference value for whey concentrate. However, when flavors are developed, protein content drops a bit because aromas, colorants, sweeteners, and ingredients that let you enjoy Evowhey Protein’s delicious options, whatever your taste, take up space, and that space reduces protein content.

The differences are so minor that our nutritionists recommend choosing protein flavor based on what you’ll enjoy most, not protein content, since the difference between 77g and 80g protein is just about 1g per shake.

As a tip: Chocolate flavors with cocoa have the lowest protein content, since cocoa powder requires more volume, which reduces protein content per 100g. All chocolate flavors exceed 70g protein / 100g; except double chocolate, which has 66g protein, being the flavor with the most cocoa and thus the Evowhey Protein flavor with the lowest protein content.

The difference between a flavor with 77g protein and double chocolate with 66g is more noticeable, but if you love double chocolate, just add a bit more protein to your shake to match any other flavor’s protein content—so don’t skip your favorite flavor because of this.

At HSN we’re fully transparent, and each flavor of our protein has its own specific nutritional info; other brands just design an average nutritional label across flavors and launch their proteins with the same protein content for all flavors, which isn’t accurate. We recommend not stressing about which flavor has more or less protein, but we provide all relevant info so you can decide what suits you best.

High biological value and reference PDCAAs - what does this mean?

Biological value of a protein and its PDCAAs (protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score) are two quality markers of a protein.

Biological value measures protein quality by calculating nitrogen used for tissue formation divided by nitrogen absorbed from food. It shows how efficiently the body uses dietary protein.

PDCAAs express the content of the first limiting essential amino acid in the test protein as a percentage of the same amino acid in a reference essential amino acid pattern (FAO/WHO, 1990). This method is preferred for measuring protein value in human nutrition.

The table below shows biological value and PDCAAs of Evowhey Protein compared to other common protein foods.

    Protein SourceBiological ValuePDCAAS
    Evowhey Protein1041
    Whole egg1001
    Milk911
    Casein771
    Meat800.9
    Soy740.9
    Pea650.69
    Rice830.47

As you can see, whey protein is the reference protein regarding quality and nutritional efficiency, and that’s why it’s considered the best overall option for protein to complement the diet of athletes, older adults, or anyone living a healthy lifestyle looking to increase daily protein intake.

These values also apply to the isolate version of Evowhey Protein: Evolate 2.0 (Whey isolate CFM). Don’t miss it!

Complete amino acid profile: naturally high in BCAAs and Glutamine

The amino acid profile, which isn’t mandatory to provide, measures the amount of amino acids a protein supplies. As you know, common high-protein foods (like chicken, fish, or eggs) don’t show amino acid profiles.

However, for protein powders it’s become a transparency practice to indicate amino acid proportions, and at HSN we follow this practice fully transparently. Like nutritional info, other companies use an average amino acid profile from a reference table for 'Whey Protein Concentrate' and apply it to their proteins. This is allowed but not very transparent due to its inaccuracy.

At HSN we determine amino acid content for each flavor specifically, and if amino acid profiles vary between raw material batches due to natural variations in cow’s milk, we update it.

So if no amino acids are added, why does it have an amino acid profile?

Proteins naturally consist of amino acids. Adding amino acids to artificially boost protein content is different from showing amino acids naturally present in the protein. Provided they’re not added, having high values of certain amino acids is positive.

    For example, BCAAs:

Evowhey Protein contains up to 5.5 g of BCAAs per 30 g of powder (average amount used to make a shake).

And this same amount provides up to 4 g of glutamine.

These amino acids are important for human nutrition and highly valued as part of a quality protein, as long as, we stress, they’re not added but naturally present.

Evowhey Protein is not only complete, meaning it has all essential amino acids your body needs and can’t produce itself, in sufficient amounts to avoid limitation by any of them, but also provides high amounts of key amino acids recognized as nutritional references for quality protein foods.

Evowhey Protein is a protein for all stages

A common question when choosing a protein is whether it’s suitable or the best option for a specific goal, but from a nutritional standpoint, no protein powder is more suitable than another for different goals.

Proteins, as long as they’re complete and good quality, share their properties. That is, milk protein doesn’t have different effects than soy protein, so why is this thought?

Because traditional foods can be chosen this way: Egg whites provide protein with very low fat or carbs, while legumes provide protein but have high carbs; red meat is similar but with high fat instead of carbs.

Protein powders are concentrated protein forms of foods, and although their values vary, for example, an iso (Evolate) has less fat and sugar than Evowhey, the differences per shake aren’t very significant, so unless you’re a competitor athlete (bodybuilding or aesthetic sports; or sports with strict weight limits), you can choose any without fear of making a mistake.

Evowhey Protein is an excellent option as a protein to take care of yourself, simply wanting to maintain weight but adding protein conveniently and deliciously to your diet for good health and enjoyment.

If you’re bulking, Evowhey provides a high protein amount, perfect for muscle gain within a high-calorie diet and regular resistance training.

Whatever your goal, Evowhey Protein is an optimal choice for you.

Best times to take Evowhey Protein - you decide

Evowhey can be used at different times of day, usually taken before or after workouts due to its fast absorption and light digestion.

Protein intake around training offers additional nutritional benefits compared to other times of day, according to Schoenfeld et al.

However, Evowhey is perfect to break a fast or complement a meal with insufficient protein, for example:

If you take nuts and fruit to work, that meal is quite low in protein; even a sandwich has limited protein... Evowhey is a great option to boost protein intake conveniently and deliciously.

You can also use it between meals, when you didn’t plan to go so long without eating but can’t have a meal for a few hours. Evowhey Protein is a way to add protein between meals to meet daily protein needs without a solid meal.

What flavor to try? HSN recommends from over 50 options!

When it comes to flavor variety, Evowhey Protein is the undisputed winner in our catalog, currently offering over 50 different flavors, of all kinds, for every taste. You’ll find sweeter and less sweet flavors; 'pastry' flavors for chocolate lovers, fruitier ones, and some with coffee; a huge variety to choose from.

And all our flavors taste really good, because before launching a new flavor, the development process is long, and only those meeting all our selection criteria, evaluated by experienced tester groups, see the light. Our protein flavors are delicious, and we help you pick from the variety.

    •  If you like sweeter flavors: Banoffee, caramel, cookies, or cream cake.
    •  Or if you prefer less sweet: Double chocolate, and Coffee with milk.

Heads up! 'Less sweet' flavors are still sweet. If you don’t like sweet proteins, the best option is to buy a Mix Pack, which combines unflavored protein with powdered flavorings, so you can control how much flavor you add to make the shake less sweet, to your liking.

    •  And if you want to try the most 'HSN' flavors: Don’t miss Caribbean vanilla, nougat, and pistachio.

Our tip: Try flavors in 500 g packs before buying 2 kg sizes. Buy bigger sizes for flavors you already know and love; a flavor you don’t like is easy to use in protein pancakes, cakes, and many recipes to mask the taste; but 500 g packs are easier to finish than 2 kg.

Try our 500 g sample pack and discover Evowhey Protein flavors without fear of making a mistake.

We answer your most common questions

How much Evowhey can I take per shake? And per day?

A common question we’ve received over the years is, 'how much protein to take' in general.

However, there’s no single answer, since protein powder isn’t a supplement (we need to drop the idea of protein powder as a supplement); protein is a food, dairy-based, powdered, with very high protein content, nothing more.

We recommend 30 g of Evowhey per shake, as it’s an average serving, easy to drink, with a good protein amount per serving, but... should everyone use 30 g per shake? No. You can use less if you want to boost protein in a meal that already has protein, using half a scoop for 15 g protein powder; or you might be a heavy bodybuilder needing a big protein dose post-workout, using 2 or 3 scoops. Just keep in mind very large protein powder doses in one go need digestive adaptation to avoid heaviness—3 scoops equal 90 g protein powder.

We recommend starting with 1 scoop of Evowhey per shake and increasing as needed.

How many shakes can I take? As many as you need. It’s a myth that protein powder is 'bad' or has negative effects unlike other protein foods, so you can use it as a normal dietary protein source. If you want to cover most of your daily protein needs with protein powder because it’s cheaper and/or you prefer the taste, go ahead; you can have 2, 3, 4 or as many shakes as you want per day.

If you want to know your daily protein and other nutrient needs, check our nutritional calculators, which give you macros to meet your goals with just a few details.

Do I need a shaker to prepare Evowhey?

At HSN you’ll find a wide range of bottles and shakers in our catalog.

Shakers are the best tool to prepare protein shakes, since protein powder isn’t soluble cocoa that mixes easily with a spoon, as it clumps. Mechanical action (like shaking) reduces surface tension to form a smooth shake.

You can use blenders, whisks, or other tools that mimic the resistance of shaking with a mesh or mixing ball, but ideally, use a shaker to prepare your Evowhey Protein shakes.

Can I mix Evowhey with drinks other than water?

    Yes.

Evowhey Protein, like almost any other protein powder, can be mixed in various liquids, most commonly water, milk, and plant-based drinks.

It can also be mixed in juices, coffee, or warm infusions, though less common since protein flavors can clash with strong-flavored drinks. But making protein shakes with liquids other than water is totally valid.

Can I cook with Evowhey? Does heating reduce protein quality?

    You can cook with Evowhey.

Protein powder isn’t damaged by typical cooking temperatures, so baking recipes like cakes or pan recipes like oat pancakes with Evowhey is common and doesn’t negatively affect nutritional or sensory quality.

As a tip, don’t mix Evowhey in boiling hot drinks, as the sudden high temperature makes protein lose mixing ability. If you want to use Evowhey in very hot coffee, pre-mix it with a small amount of warm water, milk, or coffee before adding to the hot drink or mix, so it integrates smoothly.

What raw material is used in Evowhey Protein?

    Whenever possible, Fonterra WPC450.

Fonterra and HSN have worked together for many years, as we import large amounts of dairy protein raw material from Fonterra. Their animal welfare policies, guarantees of grass-fed cattle for most dairy products, and overall quality of farming and production have made us fall in love with their proteins. That’s why our whey concentrate and isolate raw materials are mainly Fonterra.

We have distribution agreements with manufacturing plants in:

    •  ROKISKIO SURIS AB (Lithuania).
    •  The Lake District Creamery (United Kingdom).
    •  Fonterra Europe Manufacturing B.V. (Netherlands).

At HSN we control preferred raw material shipping locations, since even the same raw material from the same manufacturer in two countries shows slight nutritional and sensory differences (e.g., Lithuanian protein is fluffier, Dutch protein is looser powder).

This is why protein appearance isn’t a reliable quality indicator, despite common beliefs that isolate should be fluffier and more voluminous, and concentrate denser and looser. That’s not always true and doesn’t correlate positively or negatively with quality.

At HSN we produce large amounts of Evowhey, Evolate 2.0, and other proteins; so we handle big ingredient volumes and many tons of protein raw material per order.

Sometimes Fonterra can’t supply the raw material volume we need because the order is so large it could deplete the dairy cooperative; in these cases, HSN has verified other raw material manufacturers of whey protein concentrate, evaluated and verified against Fonterra’s raw material, which we use as a base. Thus, alternative European dairy raw materials show no nutritional or sensory differences from Fonterra’s and don’t affect our production or Evowhey’s final result.

Almost always, Evowhey Protein is made with Fonterra Whey Protein Concentrate 450; and when not possible, with equivalent European dairy raw material.

You can read more in our blog article: What raw material does Evowhey Protein use?.

Do flavors containing 'instant coffee' have caffeine?

Caffeine content in coffee flavors is residual; coffee-flavored protein can even be used at night since the caffeine amount it provides is not expected to have any physiological effect on the body.

Coffee is added for organoleptic reasons only (smell, color, and flavor), not for caffeine content.

Is Evowhey a good protein to take before bed?

Evowhey can be taken before bed, no problem.

However, since it’s considered a fast-absorbing protein, it’s better suited for daytime use and around workouts.

For nighttime, when you’ll fast for many hours, slower-release proteins are recommended, with caseins being ideal.

At HSN we recommend casein if you want a protein to take before sleeping.

Can I combine Evowhey and Creatine? Even in the same shake?

    Yes to both questions.

Evowhey is fully compatible with creatine, same day, same dose, even in the same shake.

There are no negative interactions between them, and creatine use doesn’t affect protein shake taste.

Do I need to combine Evowhey with other proteins or amino acids to improve it?

    No.

Evowhey Protein is a complete protein with high biological value and reference PDCAAs; no need to add amino acids or mix with other protein sources to improve it, as its nutritional quality can’t be improved.

So... If I consume protein, should I not take amino acids?

Amino acids (especially EAAs and BCAAs) are a good tool to complement protein intake, especially for people with digestion difficulties. When daily protein intake is sufficient, extra amino acids don’t add muscle mass benefits.

However, scientific studies show certain amino acids have specific effects, especially related to sports, independent of their role in proteins, so the answer is more complex:

You can use BCAAs, EAAs, and other amino acids even if you consume protein powder, as they help complement your diet and provide specific nutritional benefits.

Although mixing Evowhey Protein with other proteins isn’t necessary to improve its composition, you can mix it with its unflavored version (100% Whey Protein Concentrate) if you want a high-protein shake with a milder taste; or with other proteins like caseins, which have slower release, to create a sequential-release protein with different digestion phases (fast and slow).

Or use the Evonight 2.0 formula, with 5 different protein sources for multifaceted sequential release.

What is Evowhey’s lecithin and why is it present?

Sunflower lecithin found in Evowhey, its unflavored version, and other whey proteins is used to improve protein’s mixing ability in water.

Protein made from natural cow’s milk whey powder is called 'regular'; this protein has limited mixing ability in liquids and isn’t suitable for shakes. To make it 'instant,' lecithin is sprayed onto protein powder, something Fonterra already does in their 'instant' raw material, not added by us.

Lecithin increases the hydrophilic profile of protein powder, allowing better integration with liquid in the shake to form a homogeneous mix. Lecithin is a phospholipid-rich natural plant structure, with no adverse effects or nutritional properties, used as an agent to improve protein powder mixing.

In fact, lecithin, in this case soy and granulated, is marketed as a healthy food in our FoodSeries brand.

For Evowhey Protein production we use sunflower lecithin, not soy, so our protein contains no soy allergen. Sunflower lecithin offers the same properties as soy lecithin but without allergens.

Why do you add sweeteners to Evowhey? Do sweeteners cause weight gain or harm?

To achieve Evowhey’s flavors, we need to add sweetness, as without it, good results aren’t possible.

In Evowhey’s manufacturing we only use sweeteners with good taste, needing very little amount, and completely suitable for diabetics and calorie-free (as they’re intense sweeteners).

The sweeteners we use are completely safe, with no adverse effects linked to consumption, and since they add no extra calories (and daily intake amounts, even with extensive use of products containing these sweeteners, are just a few milligrams). You can read more about sweeteners used in Evowhey Protein (like sucralose or Stevia) in this blog article.

The sugar in Evowhey Protein is naturally present in whey protein from milk

    EVOWHEY PROTEIN

    Chocolate chip cookie flavor

I bought it the other day and made some to try. I loved the taste, it tastes exactly like chocolate cookie type cookies. I'll get a good start on the packet when I run out of my previous whey protein, but the cookie one looks really good :).

La compré el otro día y me preparé un poco para probar. Me encantó el sabor, sabe exactamente a galletas tipo cookie de chocolate. Ya empezaré bien el paquete cuando me acabe mi anterior proteína whey, pero la de galletas pinta muy bien :).

    Very good

In my opinion it is one of the best quality/price proteins on the market, the Caribbean vanilla and custard flavors are my favorite.

Bajo mi punto de vista es una de las mejores proteínas calidad/precio del mercado , el sabor vainilla caribeña y natillas mis favoritas.

    Good value for money

Very good value for money and many flavors, some of them with too many sweeteners for my taste and hard to dissolve, others like the coconut flavor or the cookie dissolve easily and get the flavor without being very aggressive with sweeteners. The only problem is that the packaging does not close well and it is necessary to fill a bowl with the protein. The fact that you can see the aminogram is a plus.
