Evodextrin - Your Cluster Dextrin™ with flavor
Evodextrin from SportSeries is a flavored dietary supplement based on highly branched cyclic dextrin, with sweetener.
Evodextrin is made exclusively with 100% Cluster Dextrin™ (Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin, HBCD), without other functional carbohydrate blends. It’s a highly branched cyclic dextrin developed from amylopectin through an enzymatic reaction that creates a unique cyclic structure, with superior properties compared to other sports carbs like maltodextrin or amylopectin itself.
Discover the best carbohydrate for your intra-workout in power, endurance, and high energy demand sports.
Evodextrin will become your favorite carb
Because it’s a technological carbohydrate, perfect for athletes doing intense or long workouts who want a stable energy supply, with low osmolarity and excellent digestive tolerance.
The importance of carbohydrates in performance
Carbs are key during sports. They help recover normal muscle function (contraction) after high-intensity or long-duration exercise that depletes glycogen. 1
A complex carb that behaves uniquely
The highly branched cyclic structure offers a 100% complex carb without sugar, dissolves quickly, and has low osmotic pressure, promoting gastric emptying compared to simple carbs or conventional maltodextrins.
Cluster Dextrin™: what makes it different
1) High solubility and great stability in water
The aqueous solution of Evodextrin has high stability once mixed, meaning it resists sedimentation, improving its performance in long sessions and the taste of your sports drinks. You won’t need to remix every time you want a sip.
2) Low osmolarity, better gastric emptying
Drinks with HBCD have faster gastric emptying than equivalent solutions with conventional dextrins, helping optimize gut comfort during exercise.
If you’re sensitive to carb-based drinks during training or competition, Evodextrin is your ideal intra-workout choice.
3) Steady energy, no ups and downs
Cluster Dextrin™ stands out for its very uniform molecular structure, with a high molecular weight and a tightly controlled distribution. This means each cyclodextrin particle is practically the same size and behaves consistently.
What does this mean for you? A more stable energy release during training, without sharp fluctuations in release and absorption patterns like other carbs. Plus, this uniformity translates to smoother digestion and a raw material flavor similar to starch, avoiding the overly sweet taste typical of drinks with simple sugars. Evodextrin flavors have been fine-tuned so your drinks taste balanced.
4) Balanced flavor and adjusted sweetness
The sweetness of Evodextrin has been fully adjusted to be comfortable for mixing with other products in your intra-workout drink. This also lets you use high doses in your bottle without it being cloying, and keeps it easy to drink even in heat or long efforts where you might consume a lot of fluid per hour.
5) Unmatched versatility compared to other carbs
Thanks to its structure, HBCD has a unique capacity in intra-workout drinks when mixed with other products, acting as a stabilizer in drinks with minerals, amino acids, and even hydrolyzed proteins, improving the mix and balancing the smooth mouthfeel.
Performance results: what science says
Cluster Dextrin™ has been widely studied for its impact on sports performance. Research by Glico Nutrition Co., Ltd. and various Japanese universities shows its unique molecular structure offers significant advantages over conventional carbs like glucose or maltodextrin.
One key benefit is its ability to leave the stomach faster and more controlled. This phenomenon, known as accelerated gastric emptying, makes digestion much lighter and smoother, even when consuming large amounts during training. Compared to other carb sources, HBCD has much lower osmolarity, reducing the risk of heaviness, gas, or feeling “stuffed.”
Also, Cluster Dextrin™ doesn’t cause sharp fluctuations like simple sugars due to its specific behavior. Its sustained energy release keeps a steady glucose flow, ideal for endurance sports, long gym sessions, or high-intensity competitions.
Evodextrin provides a more stable, highly bioavailable energy source without gastrointestinal discomfort, compared to simpler, linear carbs.
It’s the perfect ally for those wanting to manage carbs during training with the best digestive tolerance.

Everything you need to know to use Evodextrin
When is the best time to take cyclodextrin
- Before training (30–45 min before): as a carb preload, ideal to start training with energy stores ready.
- During training (sessions >60–75 min): The ideal time to use Evodextrin. For sustained energy that keeps performance up without heaviness.
- After training (up to 2h after): supports efficient glycogen replenishment.
Suggested doses - how much to use
As a carb, we recommend adjusting the amount based on duration, intensity, and environmental conditions depending on your sport.
As a guide: consumption of up to 30g per hour is recommended for 1-2 hour workouts, mainly from glucose sources, which you can get from cyclic dextrin, amylopectin, maltodextrin, or dextrose.
For more demanding sessions, you can use up to 90g per hour, combining glucose and fructose. If you’re not used to these amounts, start around 60g.
How to prepare it?
It’s super easy, since Evodextrin mixes excellently, even in cold water. We recommend mixing 30g of product in 400ml of water for the perfect balance of flavor and osmolarity.
Just mix it in a shaker or bottle and shake, no special tricks needed to get a smooth drink since clumping isn’t typical with Evodextrin.
Comparison with other carb sources
| Carbohydrate | Osmolarity * | Gastric emptying | Sweetness | Tolerance |
| Cluster Dextrin™ (HBCD) | Low | Fast | Low | Excellent |
| Maltodextrin | Medium | Intermediate | Medium | Good |
| Glucose/Dextrose | High | Slow | High | Poor at high doses |
* Osmolarity relative to the same amount of carbohydrate per volume of water.
What to add to your drink with Evodextrin?
Evodextrin is the ideal base to prepare a carb-based sports drink. Its main role is to provide energy very gently on digestion, but to optimize nutritional performance it can be combined with other products that work synergistically. If you do long, intense workouts or endurance competitions, adjusting your drink’s composition will make a difference.
1) Combine Evodextrin with fructose
When training requires high amounts of carbs (over 60g per hour), the body needs to use complementary intestinal transport pathways to absorb sugars efficiently. This is where combining with fructose makes sense.
Cyclic dextrin mainly uses the SGLT1 transporter (for glucose monomers), while fructose is absorbed via GLUT5. Combining both improves the total carbohydrate oxidation rate, resulting in more energy availability and less chance of gut issues. This is well known among elite athletes thanks to research by Asken Jeukendrup and colleagues.
For long workouts or events, a 2:1 ratio of Evodextrin to fructose (e.g., 40g + 20g) is usually an excellent choice to maximize carb absorption and efficiency in your drink.
2) Add electrolytes: essential in every sports drink
No intra-workout drink is complete without electrolytes. During exercise, you lose sodium, potassium, and magnesium through sweat, and replacing them is essential to maintain performance and well-being during sports.
Combining Evodextrin with electrolytes in the right proportions lets you prepare a real isotonic drink that replenishes both energy and minerals. This supports more efficient hydration in long sessions or hot environments.
3) Boost with amino acids or hydrolyzed proteins
In highly demanding sessions or double daily workouts, adding amino acids to your drink is something many athletes and coaches recommend.
Combining BCAA or EAA with Evodextrin provides extra support. For advanced athletes or ultra-endurance sports, a small amount of hydrolyzed protein (like PeptoPro®) can be added to help maintain muscle mass during training.
Your perfect intra-workout formula
For a high-performance drink, we recommend this composition:
- Evodextrin: 30g as the main energy source.
- Fructose: 15g to improve carb absorption and oxidation.
- Electrolytes: according to your sweat rate and ambient temperature.
- PeptoPro®: 10-20g to preserve muscle mass during the session.
All dissolved in 600–750 ml of water, you get a balanced isotonic drink, with pleasant flavor, excellent digestibility, designed to give you energy, support performance, and recovery.
Evodextrin is the perfect base for your complete sports drink.
