Rice Cream + Protein: A winning combination
Protein-rich rice cream by FoodSeries is a sweetened food made from pre-gelatinised rice flour and dairy proteins (whey + casein), creating a high-quality nutritional powder mix of carbohydrates and protein. These recipes come with HSN’s unique, delicious flavours. Ready to mix and eat.
Pre-gelatinised rice flour is raw rice flour made from grinding natural rice grain, then steamed to release the organoleptic properties of cooked rice before being turned back into flour. This gives us an optimal texture without cooking; and with a blend of proteins in different textures and in optimal proportions, we create the creamiest, high-protein rice cream you can find.
HSN's protein rice cream is the easiest way to prepare a light, high-protein, and very nutritious meal. Try it!
Why make this recipe? Let us tell you
The same combination you make at home, now ready to eat
Protein rice cream comes from something that's been done for ages: mixing proteins with pre-gelatinised rice flour to create a high-protein version of traditional rice cream. Many athletes use this as a pre-workout meal since it's light and provides essential nutrients for training.
We already had the key ingredients in our catalogue that everyone uses to make this blend:
However, having to buy two products and mix them at home could be inconvenient, so we thought, why not combine them ourselves, controlling the proportions and adjusting the elements that affect the flavour and texture to create something more:
- Practical.
- Easy.
- Delicious.
And that’s how protein rice cream was born—it’s the same thing you’ve been preparing at home for years, but now optimised and ready for you to just mix with water and eat straight away.
Made with gluten-free rice flour – No traces of other cereals
A common issue with this type of product, also found in our Rice Cream 2.0, is the presence of gluten in flours.
We wanted a rice cream, in this case protein-rich, but we didn’t want the rice flour—naturally gluten-free—to contain traces of this allergen, making it unsuitable for people with coeliac disease.
It's difficult to find raw materials with guaranteed allergen-free status, as not all companies have controlled production processes like ours, where we guarantee no cross-contamination. Many companies that work with rice also handle wheat or rye.
However, our relentless drive to offer the best pushed us to keep looking until we found what we needed:
A pre-cooked rice flour with unbeatable consistency, made from rice grains. Gluten-free.
Our protein rice cream is gluten-free.
Made with pre-cooked rice flour. Optimal consistency without cooking
When we talk about flours, we usually mean the result of milling a high-starch grain, which is typical for most cereal flours you find in supermarkets.
However, it’s relatively impractical to use these flours depending on their application. For example:
To make gluten-free pancakes, i.e., for cooking, yes; you need plain milled rice flour, known as raw rice flour, which you can find in HSN rice flour.
But if your goal isn’t to cook with it, but to mix it with liquid for ready-to-eat porridge, the best option is to use a pre-cooked raw material. This makes it much easier to digest and improves the texture.
And since HSN’s protein rice cream is designed to be an easy and quick meal, the best option is to use pre-gelatinised rice flour in its preparation.
Made with high-quality nutritional dairy proteins – Casein + Whey
When choosing which protein to use, we tested many, all considered to be high-quality. At our factory, we don't work with caseinates, low-protein whey, or protein raw materials mixed with amino acids.
In the end, we achieved the best result with a combination of micellar casein and whey, the two naturally occurring proteins in cow’s milk.
Casein is a slow-releasing protein, adding, organoleptically speaking, more density and a mousse-like consistency, while whey is a fast-releasing protein, lighter and allowing the preparation of shakes without significantly affecting the mixture’s thickness.
Furthermore, these proteins are considered by specialists to be the best from a nutritional quality perspective, as they are milk proteins.
This combination gives us not only the best organoleptic result but also the best nutritional balance.
High protein value from grass-fed sources
When we talk about proteins and their nutritional quality, there are two key factors: their amino acid composition and digestibility of the raw material.
In protein rice cream, we’ve used the best protein sources considering these factors, as recommended by the FAO.
Additionally, this combination has allowed us to achieve the best texture for protein rice cream.
And we didn’t settle for any milk protein; we used the same reference raw materials found in our Raw Series brand:
Sourced from grass-fed cows.
High-protein rice cream, easy to prepare
Preparing HSN protein rice cream is simple: just mix it with water, milk, or a plant-based drink to achieve the best consistency.
You can mix it in an HSN shaker, as the result remains fluid for a few seconds after mixing, allowing you to pour it into a bowl to eat with a spoon as it thickens there.
Alternatively, you can prepare it directly in a bowl by adding water to the powder and vigorously mixing with a whisk until you achieve a smooth, creamy, lump-free result.
Gradually, you’ll adjust the amount of water to suit your personal preference, whether you prefer a lighter or thicker consistency.
Protein rice cream does not need cooking.
Eat it hot or cold: You decide
Both ways are valid.
People often ask if rice cream (including this protein version) can be eaten hot.
The answer is yes! Although most people mix it with cold liquid and eat it right away, during the colder winter months, you might prefer a warm protein cream.
Simply prepare the cream as usual and then microwave it for 30 seconds to enjoy a warm protein rice cream.
No added sugars – No hydrolysis – Sweetened without calories
Our high-protein rice cream comes in delicious flavours that are hard to believe are “fit,” but they are.
We don't use sugar in our recipe. We add no sugars and sweeten the available flavours only with sucralose, a zero-calorie sweetener that tastes very similar to traditional sugar.
By not using hydrolysed rice flour, but rather pre-cooked rice flour with intact starch, its sugar content is much lower, and it’s the natural sugar found in rice grains, just like in the cooked rice you prepare at home.
The ideal pre-workout meal – Light and practical
One of the most common ways to enjoy protein rice cream is before training.
Pre-cooked rice flour is an excellent source of carbohydrates, and therefore energy, with low fibre content, making it perfect for pre-workout sessions or for those bulking up.
Mixing it with protein gives a much more optimal result, as athletes looking to optimise recovery and muscle gain should consider a high-protein meal before or after training to take advantage of the so-called 'anabolic window'.
Protein rice cream is an ideal option for a light, nutritious meal that’s perfect for athletes.
Enjoy it with HSN nut butters
Everyone enjoys healthy recipes in their own way, but we definitely recommend trying protein rice cream with our extra creamy nut butters as a topping once it’s ready.
A delicious Fit addiction!
