There is nothing chemical or associated with the industrialisation process, apart from the volume of food that is prepared, which is adapted to supply us.

    280g per tray - Excellent as a first course on a vegan menu

    Most of HSN's ready meals are prepared on trays in generous quantities, often around 400 grams, such as Fit and Gourmet meals.

    However, for vegan dishes, we have decided to reduce these quantities, as thanks to the fibre content of their ingredients, the satiety index they generate is high. Increasing the amount of food to equivalent quantities to the above means that the consumption of carbohydrates (characteristic of plant-based foods) will skyrocket.

    At HSN, we are committed to responsible consumption, and we won't prepare trays to go to waste, just as we are clear that our customers need to be satiated. So we have carefully analysed the amount of food we provide on each plate so that it is well balanced to satiate you properly and avoid food waste.

    Veggie dishes are ideal for vegans with a big appetite as a first course and also for those who are in the bulking phase. As an idea, it can be accompanied by a second, mainly protein-based main course made from fermented soy.

    However, for people in definition or who simply follow a healthy vegan lifestyle, veggie dishes can make a complete meal. They are moderately caloric and generate good levels of satiety, making them excellent for both lunch and dinner.

    The veggie-style dishes are not particularly spicy, and although the Mexican recipe does have a characteristic pungent taste, it is very tolerable even for people who are not particularly spicy. Fit dishes are those with a spicier and more intense average taste profile.

    Why is rapeseed oil used instead of other oils such as sunflower oil?

    Because rapeseed oil is an excellent choice, known as the 'olive oil of Northern Europe'.

    We use rapeseed oil because it is a seed oil rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, which thanks to its natural antioxidants is much more resistant to temperature than other unsaturated oils. Its fatty acids don't go rancid and its taste is neutral, unlike other options such as olive oil itself.

    The fatty acids in rapeseed oil make it a heart-healthy oil, and we do not use sunflower oil instead because it is less optimal as it tends to oxidise more quickly, making its fatty acids rancid and worsening both the flavour of the dish and its nutritional properties.

    Rapeseed oil has an unfairly bad reputation because in the 1980s, due to the similar characteristics it shared with olive oil, it was sold on the black market as if it were olive oil. In one production run by counterfeiters, they used a pesticide that contaminated the oil, poisoning people who bought it.

    This has nothing to do with rapeseed and rapeseed oil, which is produced according to regulated processes and, unlike other oils such as palm oil, is healthy and does not contribute to deforestation. It is a nutritionally healthy and environmentally friendly oil.

    Why does it contain traces of non-vegan foods? Doesn't that make the dish non-vegan? 

    On HSN's vegan ready meals, you can read on the label that there may be traces of non-vegan foods, such as fish, so why is it a vegan dish?

    Traces, which may be present in dishes, are not ingredients that are used in their preparation, but ingredients that are present in the cooking space. So for allergic people, it is something to consider, as simple environmental exposure can generate allergic reactivity, but it is not something that conditions the ethical choice of food.

    If you live in a house with other people who aren't vegan but you are, and you cook in the same kitchen, does this mean that your dishes are no longer vegan? No, doesn't it? You follow a vegan diet because the non-vegan foods you have in your kitchen are not used in your recipes.

    Preserving veggie-ready meals, what do you need to keep in mind?

    You may wonder how a ready meal can be kept for so long at room temperature, being natural, and without preservatives, if your homemade dishes cannot.

    The answer lies in the process of conservation optimisation. Thermal sterilisation, which, without the addition of any compounds, improves the preservation of the food optimally. This is achieved by a sudden and significant increase in temperature above 100ºC and a subsequent abrupt cooling. At the time this process is carried out, and in the same sterilised environment, it is packaged in a protective atmosphere, with the trays sealed thanks to the film that protects them.

    This is why HSN-ready meals are so practical. However, if you remove the film from the tray, you release the protected preservation environment and the dishes should be kept in the refrigerator and eaten as soon as possible. The preservation of the dishes remains optimal if you do not open the tray.

    The veggie-style ready meal is a great solution for when you're short on time but don't want to throw away junk food. It's well balanced, filling and tastes surprisingly good. I combine it with a salad or some extra protein and you have a complete meal.

    Good alternative to get out of a day when you are short of time. The flavors and textures are very good. It would be interesting to reduce the amount of pasta or carbohydrates and increase the amount of vegetables to improve the nutritional density and reduce the glycemic load.
